Comprehensive Guide to Neuromodulator Injections: Botox, Daxxify, Dysport, Jeuveau, and Xeomin
A Non-Invasive Approach to Treating Wrinkles and Fine Lines Introduction Neuromodulator injections have transformed the cosmetic industry, providing an effective solution for reducing wrinkles and fine lines. Products such as Botox, Daxxify, Dysport, Jeuveau, and Xeomin offer a safe method to temporarily relax facial muscles, resulting in smoother, more youthful skin. What are Neuromodulators? Neuromodulators are muscle relaxants that work by blocking nerve signals that cause muscle contractions. By injecting them into specific muscles, these products reduce the appearance of wrinkles and lines. Neuromodulator Pre & Post Care Instructions
Pre-Treatment Instructions
- Schedule your treatment at least 2 weeks before any important event to allow time for possible swelling and bruising to subside.
- Avoid medications and supplements that may increase bleeding risk 3-7 days before treatment. These include anticoagulants, antiplatelet medications, aspirin, NSAIDs, fish oil, flaxseed, garlic, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, omega-3 fatty acids, St. John’s Wort, and vitamins A and E. Consult your physician before stopping any prescribed or recommended medications.
- Refrain from drinking alcohol 1-2 days before the injections.
- Consider taking Arnica on the day of treatment.
- If you have a history of cold sores (Herpes Simplex Virus), you may need to take antiviral medication before treatment.
- Eat a meal or light snack before your appointment. If you have a needle phobia, inform your clinician so they can take appropriate precautions to ensure your comfort.
Post-Treatment Instructions
- For the first 6 hours after treatment, stay upright and periodically perform facial movements in the injection areas to help the neuromodulator settle into the muscles.
- Avoid heavy lifting, vigorous exercise, or straining for 2-3 hours to prevent increased circulation during the time it takes for the neuromodulator to bind to the nerves.
- Do not rub, touch, or manipulate the treated area for 6 hours.
- Avoid using irritating products for 24 hours post-treatment.
- Makeup can be gently applied before leaving the office; remember to wipe up and away from your eyes or brows.
- Bruising in the treated area is normal, especially around the eyes, and can last up to several weeks. Arnica may help reduce bruising.
- Full effects of the treatment may take up to 12 days to appear.
- A follow-up visit 10-14 days post-treatment is recommended to assess results, especially for first-time clients. Additional neuromodulator units may be needed for full correction.
- If the upper lip was treated, you might be unable to drink through a straw, whistle, or enunciate certain words for about 2 weeks.
- Although rare, infection in the treated area is possible. Symptoms include redness, tenderness, and fever. If an infection develops, antibiotics may be necessary.
- Re-treatment is typically needed every 2-6 months.
- Regular injections usually result in longer-lasting effects.
- Optimal results are generally achieved with routine treatments.
- Contact the office or seek medical attention if you experience any concerning or unusual side effects.
