Kybella: Eliminate Your Double Chin or Turkey Neck
What is Kybella? Kybella (deoxycholic acid) is a non-surgical, injectable treatment FDA-approved to address submental fullness, commonly known as a double chin or turkey neck. First approved by the FDA in 2015, it was originally manufactured by Kythera Biopharmaceuticals and is now produced by Allergan, the makers of Botox.
The active ingredient in Kybella, deoxycholic acid, is a naturally occurring substance that helps break down fat cell membranes. Kybella is a synthetic version of this acid. When injected into areas with subcutaneous fat, it breaks down fat cells, which are then naturally eliminated by the body. Beyond treating the chin, Kybella has been used to reduce fat in the jawline (jowls), abdomen, arms, back, legs, and other areas.
Treatment Kybella treatments typically take about 20 minutes, involving the use of tiny needles to inject small amounts of Kybella into the treatment area. Results are usually visible after two weeks and tend to be long-lasting. Most people require additional sessions spaced approximately 4-6 weeks apart for optimal results.
